那個時候中國人雖然到西域去求法，沒有見到《楞嚴經》。不但沒見過，聽都沒聽說過。什麼原因 ? 印度朝野包括出家人認為《楞嚴》是國家唯一的寶藏，外國人來留學，其他的佛法可以給他看，經典給他看，《楞嚴經》秘密，不肯傳給人。
